Structural Tape vs Silicone: Geoff Wallner

3M VHB specialty tape is being used more and more in structural applications that come across our desks and in various applications.  We have seen it used as an alternate for silicone between glass panels within interior glazing, to attach stiffeners to metal panels, and even in the structural glazing of exterior glass.  Surprising to many of us, the 1″ width tape has tensile adhesion in the same neighborhood as the tried and true structural silicones. One benefit is less labor intensive as easy to install and requires much less thickness as tapes range from 1/16″ to 1/8″ are typically utilized.  If interested you can find more information and use cases at 3M’s website – https://goo.gl/5Nhzkd
